Education first, and a conversation only if you want one. I am a licensed life insurance and segregated funds advisor with Affinity Financial Services Inc., working with people across Mississauga by video call and in person.
Plenty of households here are covered through a head office or corporate plan. It is genuinely valuable and routinely misread: usually a multiple of salary, usually ending when the job does, and rarely matching what a family actually depends on.
Shift work and irregular hours
Around the airport and the logistics corridor, a lot of income comes from shifts rather than salary. That changes which questions matter, and it is also why most of these conversations happen in an evening or at a weekend.
Condo owners and first-time buyers
A condo mortgage plus maintenance fees is a fixed monthly obligation that does not pause. The FHSA is often the account people wish they had opened a year earlier, because room only starts building once it exists.
Support that crosses borders
Some households here support family in Canada and abroad at the same time. That obligation rarely shows up on a budget, and it is one of the more common reasons a coverage figure works out higher than expected.
Work it through yourself first
Everything on this site is free and needs no sign-up: the coverage and goal calculators, the Discovery Lab interactives, and plain-language articles on TFSAs, RRSPs, RESPs, FHSAs and insurance. Plenty of people never book a call, and that's a perfectly good outcome.
