How these articles are written

Financial articles are only useful if you can trust where the numbers came from. Here is exactly how the articles, calculators and Learning Lab items on this site are produced.

One named author

Everything here is written and published by Lukas Jocius, Insurance Advisor at Affinity Financial Services Inc. There are no anonymous or ghost-written posts, and no sponsored articles.

Figures checked against official sources

Contribution limits, grant amounts, deadlines and thresholds are taken from the Canada Revenue Agency, the Government of Canada, the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada or Assuris. Each article lists its sources at the end so you can check them yourself.

Updated, not republished

When rules change, we update the existing article and show the date it was last updated, rather than posting a new version. Registered-account limits are reviewed every year when the CRA announces them.

Balanced, and never a recommendation

Articles explain trade-offs, including costs and drawbacks. They are general education, not financial, investment, tax, legal or insurance advice, and nothing here is a recommendation to buy or sell a product. Any recommendation requires a review of your own circumstances.

Compliance review

Material about insurance and investment products is reviewed for compliance before publication, in line with the requirements that apply to licensed advisors in Canada.

How the articles are produced

Drafts are researched and prepared with the help of software tools, including AI assistance, and every article is then checked, edited, fact-checked and approved by Lukas before it is published. The interactive calculators and Learning Lab illustrations are built in-house.

Corrections

If you spot something that looks wrong or out of date, tell us and we will check it. Corrections are made to the article itself, and the updated date changes.
